QUADRANT BRINGS HIGH PERFORMANCE PLASTICS
DESIGN AND MATERIAL KNOW-HOW
ONLINE

New interactive and entertaining multimedia website provides knowledge and experience on Torlon® PAI material selection, design and machining

Lenzburg, Switzerland - June 18 2009 - Quadrant EPP has launched www.designwithtorlon.com, a multimedia website built specifically to provide information to engineers, designers and machinists on the material properties and many advantages that machinable Torlon® PAI shapes from Quadrant can offer. The website is available in English. In addition to standard material information such as product specifications, basic application information and downloadable documentation, the new site also features specially commissioned video elements that increase the site's appeal and usefulness for the design community.

Video segments that share some of Quadrant's six decades of plastic machining experience cover topics like saw cutting, turning, milling and fly-cutting. Site visitors can see first hand how these processes are done in Quadrant's Technical Centres. The processes demonstrated address many frequently asked questions about designing parts with Torlon PAI and many other advanced engineering plastics.

In addition to the video segments on material fabrication and machining procedures, Quadrant has introduced a newly commissioned series of video shorts modelled on a US talk show format that address design and performance concepts, and should appeal to all site visitors, both engineering and non-technical. These mock-talk show segments are grouped in the site's Vodcast area and are intended to be light hearted, entertaining and informative. The show, fronted by fictional host Dr. Rod Modulus, and featuring other colourful characters, can be subscribed to as an RSS feed for visitors who want to stay connected to new updates from the program.

The primary aim of the site is to illustrate the material properties and performance advantages of Torlon PAI when compared to machinable polyimide materials. The unique combination and highly versatile performance benefits Torlon PAI offers at elevated temperatures, ranging from 150˚C up to 250˚C, are not always understood in the wider materials design and engineering community. These include excellent wear and frictional performance, exceptional strength, stiffness, and dimensional stability - all of which are described in the 'Why Torlon' section of the site.

Torlon PAI also displays high creep resistance and inherent low flammability as well as exceptional resistance against high energy radiation (gamma- and X-rays). Available in extruded, injection moulded and compression moulded grades, Torlon PAI shapes offer a cost-effective material of choice for a range of highly demanding applications in various industries, especially the aerospace, chemical processing, energy and semiconductors sectors.
